Lecture phase has now been in motion for the past two weeks. This means we've begun a general routine and started to prepare for outreach in Indonesia!

To help understand what life is like out here I'll outline a basic week day on the island. Alarm goes off at 5:45 and we whip up breakfast before heading for a morning surf or wake up a little later and do worship. Then are lectures, which have a weekly speaker and topic. This lasts until lunch, followed by either community outreach (I play with kids from a community housing setting), laundry or work duties. Then is dinner, followed by another lecture, a town run, or outreach prep. This scedual varries throughout the week until the weekend, where we usually do our homework, enjoy the island, and go to a local church.

The first week our speaker Donna Jordan, a sweet and lively old woman spoke on hearing God. This was a major kick start to the lecture phase as Donna tought passionately out of a strong relationship with Jesus. It was unbelievable how personally God spoke to everyone. This shouldnt come as a surprise as he is after all the one who created us, but this helped me realize that a posture of listening is far too easliy distorted and worth significant attention.

Matt Lasky, a director at the base here tought the second week on the basics of Christianity. This week was more analytical in understanding the reliability and authenticity of the bible throught the test of time and translations, along with overview of the gospel and how christianity is an outlier in comparison to other religions.

I am greatfull to be out here and am enjoyig all aspects of the adventure so far, particularely spending time with staff and students, learning, surfing, and playing with the kids.

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father."

-John 10:14-18
